Colours of Australia
Who or what is Colours of Australia? It is the name of the main business that produces Papoose and was started in 1991, by Renske Carbone. Initially it produced hand painted scarves that were sold to retailers such as the now defunct Dorian Scott in the Rocks in Sydney and the defunct George's in Melbourne and the also defunct Aherns in Perth. (Was it something I did??) It quickly expanded due to early success and started making tablecloths and accessories, also called napery. Renske became known as the tablecloth lady and still today, a good 17 years later gets asked for her tablecloths. It expanded into bed linen and furnishing fabrics, then, when the business went overseas exploded into an eclectic range covering rain gear, (handpainted rain boots, umbrellas and raincoats), luggage (hand painted suitcases and overnight bags), garden accessories, bags and lots of kids products such as bibs and ponchos, backpacks etc. The "glue" that held the range together was the colourful simple designs that were used on all these products and CoA became known for its exuberant use of colour executed through simple design motives. One of the most successful ranges, which is reaching new heights of popularity, is the range of Garden Boots, Kloggies and Short Boots. Made from natural rubber, adorned of course with our trademark bright designs, these boots and Kloggies appeal to a large range of customers, from trend savvy teenagers to grandmothers who are not scared to make a splash in the garden.CoA has its own website.

The boots are popular all over the world and are part of a growing fashion trend that perhaps originated in the UK. CoA got its name after Renske had a dream. She'd been thinking for days what name to use for her new business and one morning she woke up knowing it. Her design and colour sense were developed during her early years in Australia, the brightness and clarity of the light providing pure inspiration and so the name seemed perfectly right!
