Wool-Care, how to care for your wool and felt items

Wool-Care is not so difficult. The important thing to remember is that wool shrinks when washed hot, or when agitated in soapy water.Depending on your wool or felt item we have a few suggestions:

If a spill has occurred:

Mob up the liquid straight away. The felt will actually repel the water for a little while before it soaks in. This is your chance to avoid getting a stain in the first place. With a paper towel gently soak up the liquid, do not rub into the surface. You may find this is all you need to do.

If you have a stain:

Gently pat the felt with a damp cloth, do not rub. Clean your cloth in between patting, persist until stain has gone. Do not rub!! Rubbing will push the stain deeper into the fibers of the wool.

If it is a carpet or lager piece of flat felt, try vacuuming first, but not if it is a wet stain.

If you want to wash the whole item:

Hand wash in lukewarm water with a very mild wool detergent. Do not agitate, rub or soak the piece of felt. If the shape distorts during washing, pull it back into shape and let it dry out of the sun.

Do not tumble dry. Do not rub. Do not agitate. Do not wash in hot soapy water. Wool-care is more about what not to do than what to do! Wool will pill and shed for some time. If you have a carpet you will notice fluff coming out. This is quite normal for wool carpets, felted or not. Just vacuum, do not panic.

Wool is a strong material and should last you a long time.
